Amanda Seccombe - The Eyes2Eyes Foundation

Amanda Seccombe is the director and heart behind the Eyes2Eyes Foundation. She lost her vision in both eyes due to a serious corneal infection back in 2018. After enduring a painful journey—spending nearly three years in visual rehabilitation—Amanda regained functional vision in one eye through donor corneas and scleral lenses. Her own struggle ignited a mission: to ensure that disadvantaged South Africans with treatable eye diseases have access to urgent, life-altering care.

Under her leadership, Eyes2Eyes is tackling key challenges in eye care, including:

  • funding advanced screening equipment—currently only one specialist microscope exists in South Africa for corneal disease, which is being used by the Eyes2Eyes Foundation
  • providing two public sector corneal transplants per month to those in need
  • supplying custom-designed scleral lenses from New  Zealand, essential for restoring vision in corneal disease patients.

Amanda’s vision draws from both lived experience and technical insight. Her diagnosis with Acanthamoeba keratitis, which destroyed her corneas, exposed her to a system where access to donor tissue is rare and treatment costly. She now uses her platform—media interviews, podcasts, art collaborations, and university credentials—to educate, advocate, and elevate funding for preventable blindness.

The Heart of Cape Town is immensely proud to be a community partner of Amanda Seccombe and the Eyes2Eyes Foundation, whose work is making a real and lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most.
